It is our view that music is a practical
subject divided into three distinct parts: composition,
performance and listening. In Key Stage Three a large part
of the lessons is taken up with
composition and performance, both aspects gradually demanding
an increasing awareness of musical style. Learning to play
the keyboard and guitar is an intrinsic part of classroom
experience. We are extremely fortunate in having an excellent
Music Suite which includes practice and green rooms with direct
access to the school hall which ideally suits the department
in its efforts to bring music to a wider audience through
concerts and shows.
Peripatetic music teachers provide brass, woodwind, percussion
and string lessons and the school has a training and senior
band as well as choirs. We are a centre for Associated Board
examinations and in the last few years our pupils have achieved
great success in these nationally recognised music tests.
The choir and band make frequent appearances in the community
and a number of pupils belong to county bands, orchestras
and choirs. We are one of the very few schools in North Wales
to offer Music A level.
