For several years the school has had a
system for monitoring progress throughout the school. Subject
teachers are asked to comment on the pupil's standard of work,
effort, attitude and attendance. Pupils are interviewed by
their class tutors and if necessary, remedial action, including
parental involvement, can be taken where a pupil is making
unsatisfactory progress.
In Year 10 and 11, considerable efforts are made to ensure
that all pupils achieve their potential in the Public Examinations.
This regular monitoring of progress has proved itself to be
a valuable complement to our standard reporting system. Pupils
who are identified as not performing as well as they should
are assigned a mentor who will have regular meetings with
them. These mentors will set the pupils various targets that
will help them get back on track. Besides this, pupils are
now provided with target levels for all their Teacher Assessments
and Test Units in Key Stage 3. Upper School pupils are similarly
given target grades for the GCSE, Entry Level, GNVQ and Advanced
courses. Reports for parents are written with these target
levels and grades in mind.
